Essential betting and casino terms explained in simple English. Understanding these concepts helps you make informed decisions and manage your bankroll effectively.
RTP (Return to Player)
The percentage of total wagered money that a game returns to players over time. For example, 96% RTP means that for every Rp 100,000 wagered, the game returns Rp 96,000 on average.
House Edge
The mathematical advantage that the casino has over players. It is calculated as 100% minus RTP. Lower house edge means better odds for the player.
Wager / Stake
The amount of money you bet on a single game round or sporting event. Your stake is at risk and can be lost if your bet does not win.
Odds
The ratio between your stake and potential winnings. Odds of 2.0 mean you double your money on a win. Higher odds indicate lower probability but bigger payouts.
Spread / Handicap
A points advantage or disadvantage applied to level the playing field between unequal teams. For example, -1.5 spread means the favored team must win by 2+ goals.
Parlay / Accumulator
A multi-leg bet where you combine multiple selections into one ticket. All selections must win for the parlay to pay out, but odds multiply for much higher potential returns.
Live Bet / In-Play Betting
Placing bets on a sporting event while it is in progress. Odds update in real-time based on the current score and game flow.
Cashout
Settling your bet before the event finishes. Allows you to guarantee a profit or minimize a loss based on current odds. Cashout value fluctuates as the game progresses.
Bankroll
The total amount of money you have set aside specifically for gambling. Proper bankroll management involves betting only a small percentage per wager (typically 1-5%).
Volatility / Variance
How frequently and how much a slot or casino game pays out. Low volatility games pay smaller wins more often, while high volatility games pay larger wins less frequently.
Free Spin / Free Bet
Promotional offer allowing you to play slot spins or place bets without using your own money. Winnings from free plays usually have wagering requirements before withdrawal.
Wagering Requirement
The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw it. A Rp 100,000 bonus with 30x wagering requires Rp 3,000,000 in total bets before cashout.
